DAN DMT Course Registration is Now Open

Spaces Remain But Are Expected to Fill Quickly

Are you interested in becoming a DAN® Diver Medical Technician (DMT)? Registration is now open for the two courses currently slated for 2010. Spaces remain available for both the April and September classes, but those spaces are expected to fill quickly.

DMTs fulfill a unique role among divers. They serve as the critical first step in the dive medicine chain, caring for injured divers on the scene and acting as tenders in the hyperbaric chamber. DMTs also provide an alternative to the presence of qualified hyperbaric physicians at every dive site, responding to emergency medical situations, managing the situation and communicating effectively with DAN and physicians in remote locations.

The DAN DMT course offers lectures presented by internationally known faculty, hands-on practical skills and the experience gained through more than 40 hours of classroom, lab and experience at local hyperbaric facilities. Lecture topics include the role and responsibilities of the DMT; review of gas laws; gas toxicities; the ears and sinuses; otoscope use; decompression sickness (DCS); physical exams and invasive and noninvasive procedures. The DAN DMT course is certified by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology as a Module 16 program. Each course is limited to 12 persons.

Registration for both the April and September classes can be completed online; for additional information, contact DAN Education at (919) 684-2948 or oxygen@diversalertnetwork.org.
